Hundreds of illicit items have been seized at Ayrshire's courthouses in the last three years, despite the region's two sheriff courts going for large periods without any security cover.

Figures released following a Freedom of Information request by Ayrshire Weekly Press reveal that almost 400 items deemed "inappropriate to take into a courtroom" have been confiscated at Ayr and Kilmarnock Sheriff Courts between 2023 and 2025.

An abusive stalker who threatened his ex-wife warned her, "If you tell Women's Aid, there will be consequences".

Robert Hiddleston pleaded guilty to engaging in a course of behaviour that was abusive of his partner or ex, returning for sentencing at Ayr Sheriff Court.

Woman slashed ex-partner's face on her birthday

A Troon woman who slashed a former partner's face with a knife on her birthday avoided custody.

Margaret McGill returned to court having been found guilty of assaulting the man and striking him on the face with a knife or similar implement to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Man made threats while brandishing air weapon

A man who made violent threats with an air weapon in Drongan has been placed under supervision.

Jamie Main pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and appeared for sentencing at Ayr Sheriff Court.

Drug dealer jailed for supplying cannabis to pay £6k

A Drongan drug dealer caught supplying cannabis was jailed and told he will have to hand over more than £6,000 of his illegally-earned cash.

John Allison was locked up on a 10-month sentence when he appeared in the dock at Ayr Sheriff Court.

Driver banned from roads and fined by sheriff

A driver has been banned from the roads and fined after being caught behind the wheel while unfit through drink or drugs.

Michael Gibb, 42, was found by police to be unfit to drive on Snowdon Terrace in West Kilbride on April 19 last year.

Man given curfew after shouting and swearing

A West Kilbride pensioner who shouted and swore at his home has been told he must stay inside every night for the next 10 weeks.

Eric Baker, 72, appeared from custody after also breaching a court condition not to enter a separate address in the street and make contact with another individual.
